As the modern web environment continues to change, media professionals and designers are looking for innovative ways to enrich their content. This is not only to improve the reading experience of readers, but also to output their own value orientation and get more readers’ favor. Metaphor and interaction have been widely used, and a new creativity may possibly come from the combination of these two.

01

Metaphor is a method that is both artistic and guiding. Metaphor works usually attract readers through distinctive and strong visual stimulation, and trigger readers’ understanding and thinking. These unique visual images are usually composed of two or more representative things, and they do not usually appear together, but in a particular event, they have great correlation. When a woman and a violin appear at the same time in a picture which is located in a musical instrument factory, some readers will naturally associate with the tool images of women in the society in a particular period, combined with their historical knowledge.

02

Interaction is a relatively new approach. Readers are not just reading, they can interact with the content provided by media by completing actions in the network environment, and different actions are likely to lead to different experiences. This will greatly increase the positive thinking of the content. Assuming that the reader is reading historical events along a timeline, when another event from the same year is inserted to the side, the reader will understand the causal relationship between the two events if they simply connect them with the mouse.

03

Once metaphor and interaction are combined, the results may be surprising. Authors can try to relate several different things themselves, and the resulting metaphorical effect is beyond their imagination. For example, a tutorial on making masks can not only arouse readers’ attention to the disease of the new crown, but also stimulate their awareness of self-protection and social responsibility. In sum, considering the readers’ simultaneous pursuit of diversified information and the high-level art and culture, interactive metaphor could be historic for both media and design.
